Ushered in by brisk winds and chilly temperatures, winter has finally arrived! Although Southern Delaware is fortunate enough to enjoy a temperate climate, we’re preparing our Insight homeowners for what the season brings. With possible chances of snow from late December to early March, we’ve collected helpful resources for our residents to refer to throughout the season. Give these helpful tips a try when planning for the next snow day in your Insight home!
When preparing for a winter storm the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) suggests stocking up on enough non-perishable food and water to last at least three days, and monitor local news for emergency information and alerts. It’s also important to have an emergency supply kit with flashlights, batteries(backups), a first aid kit, toiletries, and garbage bags. Check out Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) suggested items to include in your own emergency kit here. No need to rush to the store to check everything off your list. You can build your supplies over time by adding a few items each week or month.
Preparing your home to withstand the brisk winds and light snowfalls of winter can be a task, but thanks to our science, there’s no need to stress. From our energy heel roofing system to our innovative insulation process to the Dual Fuel Hybrid System we offer to homeowners; an Insight house is built with winterization in mind. Homeowners stay nice and warm in their homes without drastically increasing their energy bill. We realize we exceed all the typical "green home" standards, but if you haven't figured it out yet, building a better new home in Delaware is just what we do.
From a light dusting to a winter storm, snow can make roads and walkways extremely dangerous and also temporarily disable critical community services. To prepare for any icy inclement weather, homeowners should sign up for local alerts and warnings. Visit your city’s official websites to review their emergency preparedness plan and sign up to receive weather advisory alerts if offered.
In the event that your city is unable to update its website's weather advisories, stay abreast of statewide emergencies by registering for Delaware’s Emergency Notification System here. DEMA has also compiled a list of helpful resources for all Delaware residents. From the Emergency Alert System Radio Station directory to electric and power emergency contacts, our Insight residents are sure to be aware of the resources at their disposal.
Enjoy those cozy snow days in your Insight Home!
