Every holiday season, we try to think of those less fortunate who may not be able to give presents or have a warm holiday meal. We have found five local charity efforts that you can join to help those in need this holiday season.
Toys for Tots
This charity is a special one for Insight Homes. Last year we donated 60 presents, and we hope to top that number in our Toys for Tots toy drive this year.
Adopt-a-Family
While the state of Delaware has Adopt-a-Family programs running year-round, the Holiday Gift Assistance Program is perfect for those looking to help a family in need this holiday season. Sponsors are anonymously matched to a senior or family of one or more children, and then provide gift certificates for the head-of-household to use in purchasing holiday gifts.
One Warm Coat
If you are traveling to Wilmington, consider heading to the One Warm Coat drop-off location to donate a gently used coat. Coats are being collected at Thomas McKean High School through 2/24/2016.
Delaware Humane Association & Delaware SPCA
As the weather gets colder, we can’t help but think about animals without homes. If you’re looking to gift graciously this year, check out the Wish Lists for the Delaware Humane Association and Delaware SPCA and consider donating gifts that help them care for animals in need all year round.
Holiday Food Drive
Join the Food Bank of Delaware to ensure that no Delawarean goes without a holiday meal this season. Drop off canned vegetables, evaporated milk, mashed potatoes, gravy, frozen turkeys and canned hams to the Food Bank of Delaware in Milford or check out one of these drop-off locations.
